Nelson Kwei
Nelson Kwei, the premier choral director of Singapore, is an international acclaimed conductor, conservatorium lecturer, editorial advisor, international adjudicator, music arranger and vocal clinician in the music scene. He is a Fellow from the London College of Music, and Advance Post-Graduate in Choral Conducting from the Royal Academy of Music (London) . As a multiple award winner, he received “National Youth Award”, the “Culture Award” by the Japanese Chamber of Commerce, the “Ambassador of the Arts” for Singapore, “Meritorious Award” by COMPASS and six times international Conductor Award from Italy, Czech Republic, Germany and Austria.
Presently, he is an executive member of the National Arts Council’s Advisory Board for Choral Development in Singapore and the NAC external assessor for music. He is also the Artistic director of the prestigious Singapore Choral Festival. Internationally, he is the Artistic Director of “A Voyage of Songs” and “Asia Canatae”, both are prominent international choral competitions series.
Quek Yong Siu
Quek Yong Siu, a poet and a composer, is now a lecturer at the School of Electronics and Info-comm of the ITE College West of Singapore. Currently he is also the president of the Association of Composers (Singapore), vice-president of the Musicians Society of Singapore, vice-president of the World Chinese Writers Association of Exchange Inc, honourary Committee Member of the Chinese Instrumental Music Society, music director cam conductor of the Oriental Arts choir and Hokkien Hui Kuan Choir, advisor of Ding Xiao Yan Ruan Ensemble and Arts Sphere Ensemble, the president of May Poetry Society, committee member of the Writers Association of Singapore, honorary president of the Fen Yang Gou Clan Association and former guest DJ of the Radio FM 100.3, 95.8 and Radio International.
His published works includes 6 poems collections, 1 prose collection, 1 song book and 1 music commentary Remnant Rhyme.
Mr. Quek was awarded twice for his music composition in the competition called “Our Songs”. His music composition includes various types of vocal and instrumental music. He was the conductor of the Juexin Orchestra, Red-cross Chinese Orchestra and National Theatre Mixed Orchestra for more than 20 years. He is often invited as a judge for writing competitions and music competitions in Singapore and Overseas.
His compositions are well received and recognized by the singers and audience and they were sung frequently at local and overseas concert.
